Johnson Management (JM) is based in Spartanburg, South Carolina and provides cash, treasury management, accounting, tax, financial planning and analysis, and investment management support to The Johnson Group. Johnson Management works hand in hand with the owners, Board, and management teams to execute on its mandate.

JM is currently searching for a Tax Manager for the Corporate Office in Spartanburg, South Carolina. A description of the position and requirements are listed below. Qualified candidates should submit their resume to apply for this role. 

Position Summary: 

Under the supervision of the Director of Tax, the position will be responsible for overall income tax and estate planning, reporting, and filing for the Johnson Group of Companies and the Johnson Family.

The role includes complex analysis across Partnerships, Trusts, and Individual tax structures within a family enterprise. As such, prior experience working with a family enterprise – at a CPA firm or directly within the company – is required.

The role also requires confidentiality, professionalism, and strong communication as you work with a diverse group of important external clients and internal contacts at all levels of the organization. Independent judgement is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload.

Must be willing to work in the office full time – not a remote or hybrid role.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement partnership, trust, and individual tax structure and processes
  • Support estate planning conversations with Owners and professional service firms
  • Leverage AI, data and report automation, and tax filing automation software to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Collaborate with internal resources and external firms to ensure compliance and effective tax strategies
  • Monitor tax law changes and advise on implications for family office and related entities
  • Responsible for confidential and time sensitive material
  • Rely on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Partnership, Trust, and Individual tax experience
  • Tax analysis and planning for estate planning
  • 6-10 years’ experience at both a mid-to-large CPA firm and/or within a family enterprise required
  • CPA preferred
  • Executive presence with strong integrity, solid work ethic, and exceptional attention to detail
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, non-structured work environment
