Johnson Management (JM) is based in Spartanburg, South Carolina and provides cash, treasury management, accounting, tax, financial planning and analysis, and investment management support to The Johnson Group. Johnson Management works hand in hand with the owners, Board, and management teams to execute on its mandate.

JM is currently searching for a Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Associate to provide data analytics and AI support across JM’s full mandate. The role will be in the Corporate Office in Spartanburg, South Carolina. A description of the position and requirements are listed below. Position Summary:

The FP&A Associate will create value by providing data, research, models, and insights that support reporting and decision making within JM and for the Owners and Board. The role will enhance value by expanding the application of data science, AI, and automation capabilities at JM.

A successful candidate will have strong financial analysis, data science, AI, data structuring and modeling, project management, and communication skills.

The ideal candidate has a quantitative based Degree and two+ years of heavy quantitative experience in Data Science, AI, report automation, FP&A, and accounting information systems.

Position Responsibilities - Essential Functions: 

  • Data and financial models: Collaborate with the JM CFO and the Johnson Development finance team (member of The Johnson Group) on our integrated data warehouse to design and execute recurring and ad hoc analytical models. Develop and maintain improved data models and analytical frameworks that incorporate data and report automation and AI-driven insights to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and predictive capabilities.
  • Capital planning and analysis: Lead the consolidated cash flow forecasting and analysis at the Johnson Group level. Coordinate with the business unit leaders to get accurate, timely data into a group-wide model that can be used to make data-based decisions on capital allocation, investments, and treasury management. Collaborate with the CFO to identify deep dive analyses and synthesize results into insights and recommendations for the board and owners.
  • Cash position and yield management: Track and report on cash flows and cash position for the overall group and for each ownership entity (trusts, LLCs, etc.). Identify and model scenarios – upside and downside – to help inform capital allocation and investment decisions. Help identify, prioritize, and assess opportunities to maximize yield on excess cash.
  • Investment analysis: Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual returns analysis on the marketable and private equity portfolio, operating companies, and specific real estate assets. Automate data collection, integration, and report generation.
  • Reporting and dashboard: Partner with operating companies and JM team members to develop and synthesize insights for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Lead the annual financial statement reporting and analysis process.
  • Ad-hoc analysis and support: Perform analysis to support decisions related to Investments, Taxes, Debt, Legal, Accounting, and other areas within the Johnson Management mandate.
  • Guiding Principles: Strive to exemplify the Company’s Guiding Principles daily. Show initiative through streamlining processes and driving efficiencies within JM.

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in a quantitative field
  • 2+ years of work experience in a quantitative field
  • Experience with data science methodologies and technologies, including software tools for organizing, manipulating and analyzing complex data sets (e.g., SQL, Python, R)
  • Proficient in AI applications, automation tools, and scripting languages, with the ability to match tools to specific use cases and implement functional UI/UX designs
  • Experience with Accounting information systems
  • Familiarity with creating dashboards and reports in business intelligence platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning skills with a strong ability to work through difficult analytic situations
  • High learning agility with a proven ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced and flexible environment
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Strong, clear, and proactive communicator with excellent written and verbal communication
  • Organized, responsive, and analytical with exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong ethical standards; able to create trust and integrity with co-workers and partners
