Johnson Management (JM) is based in Spartanburg, South Carolina and provides cash, treasury management, accounting, tax, financial planning and analysis, and investment management support to The Johnson Group. Johnson Management works hand in hand with the owners, Board, and management teams to execute on its mandate.

JM is currently searching for an Accounting Manager to lead its accounting function. The role will be in the Corporate Office in Spartanburg, South Carolina. A description of the position and requirements are listed below. Qualified candidates should submit their resume to apply for this role. 

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager leads the JM accounting team. This position is responsible for the full scope of accounting functions for Johnson Management (JM), with direct responsibilities for journal entries, financial statements, treasury, insurance, payables, charitable giving, and process improvements across a large variety and volume of assets.

JM operates within a flat organizational structure, so the Accounting Manager must be both hands-on and strategic, comfortable preparing journal entries as well as analyzing and discussing financial statements with the CFO and ownership.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute daily operations of the accounting function, including G/L, financial statements, treasury, insurance, payables, and charitable giving.
  • Provide direct and indirect management, administrative support, and oversight to assets and personnel that fall within JM’s broad mandate.
  • Manage direct reports as well as several indirect reporting relationships; collaborate seamlessly with leaders across The Johnson Group.
  • Be a steward of the investors’ capital and cash; ensuring checks and balances are established and consistently followed.
  • Show initiative through use of AI and data automation software to streamline processes and drive efficiencies within the accounting department.
  • Provide, accurate, timely financial statements and supporting documents to the CFO and the owners that clearly provide the key insights.
  • Assist in ensuring data received from third party feeds is recorded correctly and accurately and reconciled to supporting documentation.
  • Strive to exemplify the Company’s Guiding Principles daily.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
  • CPA or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years managing an accounting team.
  • Highly proficient in Accounting Information Systems, Excel, and MS Office Suite in general.
  • Detail oriented and strong process and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work with minimum supervision.
  • Exceptional written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, non-structured work environment. Must be able to self-direct work initiatives and independently complete projects.
