Position Summary

The Accounting Associate position is one of two Accounting team members for Johnson Management (JM) a related company of JDA. The Accounting Associate plays a key role and is responsible for a broad set of accounting functions - from journal entries to financial statement preparation and analysis to supporting improvements with our accounting system and processes. The role is also unique in the variety of asset types and industry segments it supports, including private and marketable securities.

The role provides opportunities to take on increasing responsibilities as performance warrants.

Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions 

  • Partner with the Accounting Manager, and the broader Johnson Management/JDA team in the daily operations of JM's accounting function.
  • Take primary responsibility for general ledgers and posting of journal entries for various entities.
  • Perform reconciliations of various general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and transparency.
  • Complete bank, investment, and loan reconciliations for Johnson Management entities.
  • Assist in ensuring data received from third parties is recorded correctly and accurately.
  • Responsible for the timely processing of payments and maintenance of accounts payable aging and ledgers for various entities.
  • Create quarterly loan statements.
  • Assist in ad hoc reporting as necessary.
  • Show initiative through streamlining processes and driving efficiencies within the accounting department.
  • Strive to exemplify the Company’s Guiding Principles daily.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in an accounting role.
  • Problem solving skills are a premium.
  • Experience in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint).
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work with minimum supervision.
  • Exceptional written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, non-structured work environment. Must be able to self-direct work initiatives and independently complete projects.

Beneficial Skills and Experience 

  • Experience with both MRI and Nexus Payables accounting software is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the real estate industry.
